PMSIP

Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Project (PMSIP) is a World Bank funded project and is valued at US$ 50 million. The project started on July 1, 2006 and has been on track since beginning PMSIP has two components i.e. municipal infrastructure development and municipal institutional development. It will work in the Tehsils of Punjab province selected on the basis of performance. Selection criteria comprises the following two factors:

  • Ratio of own source revenue to total recurrent revenue.

  • Ratio of development fund expenditure to total development funds.

PMDFC supports infrastructure development with performance-based grants by providing 85% of the cost of infrastructure sub-project whereas TMAs have to make a contribution of 15% only. It is interesting to note that institutional development has been accredited a very significant place in PMSIP and for any and all institutional development sub-projects, TMAs are not required to make any contribution. Institutional development under PMSIP is to be carried out in partner TMAs, Local Government & Community Development Department (LGCDD) and PMDFC. Preservation of cultural heritage in form of the Walled City Project forms a noteworthy component of PMSIP.
