Jhelum is a town in the North of the Punjab Province in Pakistan. It lies just on the right bank of the Jhelum River. The Grand Trunk Road passes through the city.

It is located on the main railroad on Punjab piedmont plain. It is an important market for timber and has sawmills and plywood, textile, cigarette, and glass industries. An army supply corps training centre and two colleges are also in the town. The project area consists of two main areas i.e. Main Jhelum City and Kala Gujran. Both the areas are situated at a distance of approximately 2-3 km from each other.
