Hazro was declared a Town Committee in 1873 and was upgraded to the level of Municipal Committee on 29 June 1990. It remained a part of Tehsil Attock till September 2005 whereby on October 1, 2005 it was raised to the status of a TMA in accordance with the PLGO 2001 and comprises 84 villages.

Hazro town is the headquarter of TMA Hazro. It is located at a distance of 70 kms from Islamabad on Islamabad-Peshawar road and 26 kms from Attock city. It lies to the south of Hattian at a distance of 7 Kms.
